Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) for Injection for Fish
Final Oocyte Maturation and Ovulation in Aquaculture
Overview
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone that mimics the action of Luteinizing Hormone (LH). In fish farming, it acts directly on the gonads to trigger the final stages of egg ripening and sperm production.
Key Benefits
It bypasses the pituitary gland, working directly on the ovaries or testes.
Highly effective in species like Sea Bass, Carp, and Catfish.
Allows farm managers to synchronize spawning across a large population for easier egg collection.
Application & Dosage
Route
Intramuscular (IM) injection is most common, usually near the dorsal fin.
Dosage
Varies significantly by species. Typically ranges from 500 to 1500 IU per kg of body weight.
Timing
Often administered in a single dose or a "priming" dose (10%) followed by a "resolving" dose (90%) 12–24 hours later.
💡 Pro-Tip
HCG is a large protein. Over time, some fish may develop an immune response (antibodies) to it, making it less effective if used on the same broodstock year after year.
