Description
A white or off-white lyophilized block or powder.
Pharmacological Action
Follicle stimulating hormone is a hormonal drug. In synergy with luteinizing hormone, it promotes the growth and development of ovarian follicles and the secretion of estrogen, inducing normal estrus. Under continuous stimulation at high doses, it can relieve the inhibitory effect of dominant ovarian follicles on the development of other small follicles, resulting in the formation of multiple mature follicles in the ovaries.
Indications and Usage
Hormonal agent. Used for ovarian quiescence, persistent corpus luteum, arrested follicle development, etc., and also for superovulation in cattle and goats.
Dosage and Administration
Dilute with 2–5 ml of sterile saline before use.
For treatment of ovarian quiescence, persistent corpus luteum, and arrested follicle development:
Intramuscular injection: Single dose: Horses and donkeys: 200–300 units, once daily or every other day, 2–5 injections as one course of treatment; Dairy cattle: 100–150 units, once every 2 days, 2–3 injections as one course of treatment.
For superovulation:
Intramuscular injection: Cattle: total dose 450–500 units, twice daily at 12-hour intervals, using a decreasing dose regimen for 4 consecutive days; Goats: total dose 180–220 units, twice daily, using a decreasing dose regimen for 3 consecutive days.
Adverse Reactions
No adverse reactions have been observed under the prescribed dosage and administration.
Precautions
(1) Before administration, ovarian changes must be examined, and the dosage and frequency of administration should be adjusted accordingly.
(2) Do not use for growth promotion. Before administration, reproductive function must be checked to ensure it is normal; only animals with normal reproductive function should be treated, and the dosage should be adjusted according to the dam's body weight and parity.
